Raidhi School of Health Studies offers accredited training for Social Auxiliary Workers (SAWs) at NQF level 4. Our full-time Social Auxiliary Work course lasts 12-months, with learners spending 70% of their time in the field practice.

Throughout your training course Raidhi School of Health Studies maintains close contact with the participating field practice organisations, providing close support in order to make the experience a truly educational one.

Upon successful completion of the Social Auxiliary Work course, you would be able to pursue a rewarding career as a Social Auxiliary Worker at various non-government institutions or the Department of Social Development.

Learners in possession of a Grade 10,11 or 12 Certificate can register, providing that their application has been approved by the Raidhi School of Health Studies Selection Committee. You will be notified of the status of your application after the next regularly scheduled Selection Committee meeting.

The training programme period for qualification is 12 months. The Course is divided into two semesters. Our next intake starts on 04 January 2016.

The training programme consists of:

  • Theoretical training (30% of the training programme)
  • Practical workplace training at a welfare organisation e.g. NGO’s,NPO’s, DSD, FBO, DOH, DOE (70% of the training programme).
  • Registration and orientation will take four days. The Schedule of Learning (SoL) will indicate the dates and duration of the theoretical training as well as the mentor orientation.
  • Theoretical Training in Social Auxiliary Work is compulsory.
  • Practical workplace in Social Auxiliary Work training is compulsory.
  • The learner attends the workplace for five full days a week to do workplace training on how to work with individuals,families, groups and communities under the active involvement, guidance and control of a registered social worker who will act as your Mentor.
  • Assignments: For each module the learner will have to complete two practical assignments and three workplace activities

The assessment in this programme consists of theoretical examinations, practical assignments and a summative case study. You have to be competent in all these areas of assessment to qualify for the SAW certificate.

Learners write an examination for each module at the end of each of the two cycles. After successfully completing all three cycles, a final end-of-program examination (summative case study) is written. Learners, who are found not yet competent (NYC) in a module during the examination, will be given two additional opportunities to write a supplementary examination.

A learner must be competent in all assignments. Where a learner is not yet competent (NYC), they will be granted two further opportunities.

  • The registration fee of R 500 is non-refundable
  • There is a once off fee of R2000 payable by September for Practical Training & assessments in the hospitals, frail care institutions & old age homes.
